BEAUX JARDINS
So many beautiful songs have been written!! |
Songwriters know better than anyone else the increasing feeling of euphoria as a song progresses. If you also manage to write a song that still stands after years, you can experience that same euphoric feeling every time you sing it.
If you sing songs written by others, you have the privilege of getting very close to those songs. Then the feeling that the composer must have had while writing, and that you know so well yourself, becomes almost tangible. That's my motivation! As long as I feel the emotion I felt, or other composers must have felt while writing, I will continue to make music.

And as long as there are songs, there are memories of the moment you first heard that song. I think that's the great power of music. I have always been fascinated, when I sing a well-known song during a performance, that it evokes as many different memories as there are people in the room. I always visualize such reflections very quickly. Then for me the room is full of the different memories that are all relived independently of each other, while the similarity between all those memories is that one and only song that has stuck with everyone.

With my solo program 'Songs That Linger' I have tried to evoke memories in the audience, but also a time frame. Always in the casual atmosphere of living room concerts and small-scale festivals. Through power and impact, music has made an indelible impression on many because it is often accompanied and driven by profound social changes and is also passed on to future generations as such. I drew on a large repertoire of folk/pop songs, both covers and my own singer/songwriters' oeuvre built up over 60+ years. Even for audiences who do not have their own memories from so far back, this always turned out to be a memorable journey through time.
In 2020, during the first corona restrictions, about 20 of my scheduled performances were cancelled. Keeping my voice in shape for a 'two hour gig' unfortunately became more and more top sport for me at a certain age. That is why I decided to stop doing live performances at the end of 2021. But looking back on a repertoire of 150+ songs gathered in 60+ years, I thought it would be a shame not to do anything with them anymore. That's why I decided to record all the songs that are close to my heart on both audio and video. The result can be found under the headings discography and video.
